In 1930 the LA County Forestry Department moved its fire lookout tower from Blue Ridge in the San Gabriel Mountains to Bodle Peak, in the western side of the Santa Monica Mountains. County forester Spence D. Turner said the move was intended to protect “…a highly hazardous mountain area where there are many summer homes and valuable properties” (The Forrest Worker, 1932).

The 50-foot lookout tower of all-steel construction had an observation radius of approximately 50 miles, including unique views of Las Virgenes Reservoir and the Conejo Valley. The summit is a flat area with small foundation ruins and rocky crags. Bodle Peak lookout was short-lived, only in service for 4 years before it was dismantled and re-erected to Triunfo Peak a few miles west.
