Parker mountain is located in Acton and offers miles of hiking with views of the San Gabriels to the south and the Sierra Pelonas to the north. There’s history of mining here back when Acton used to be known as Ravenna.

You can pick out Parker Mountain from the two distinct round trees that sit at the peak (4,144 feet). Ranch style houses occupy its base as well as in the surrounding hills of Acton.   

The Los Angeles Forest County Forest Department built a fire lookout atop Parker Mountain in 1935. Lookout staff included Theo L. Mercy in 1938 and Cecil G. Harrell in 1949. However, it was only in service until 1969 since fire detection by fire choppers was far more superior in an ever increasing smoggy city. 

Although outside of Angeles National Forest land, most of Parker Mountain is managed by BLM, making it public land. However, parking is exceptionally tricky because the roads around the base of the mountain are private.  A site wrote that it is best to park at Acton Park, adding 5 miles round trip to your hike. However, if you continue up the dirt road, you will find a big turn-out in which it is apparent others have parked for hiking up this mountain. Decide this on your discretion and be respectful of the houses you pass.

It is mainly fire road to the top, where a concrete structure still sits from the lookout days.
